November 1, 2024. Happy All Saints’ Day

 Today we are docked at Valencia, where we were to tour San Jose Caves, but the caves are flooded due to torrential downpours. Our excursion was canceled.  We could take a shuttle into town, but rain is still in the forecast, so we opted to have a leisurely day on the ship. 

 Last night I went to bed quite early, didn’t feel all that well, but today I feel much better.  Last night we had supper on the Lido Deck; tonight, the Dining Room!

Feb. 25, Straits of Magellan

 We took a shore excursion to the Straits of Magellan, a replica of his ship, and a museum showing life in the area when settlers and the Salesian priests arrived.  As we stood there looking south towards the sea, we were aware that here is where oceans meet:  the Atlantic on the left and the Pacific on the right.  I didn't notice any particular signs of the meeting, but it was cool! Also, I guess I always thought the straits of Magellan meant going around the point of the continent, but it's not that at all.  The bottom of South America is broken up into many waterways and islands.  Magellan simply found a good way through those water ways.  I believe the year was 1520.  So until the Panama Canal in the last century, this was the way past the American continents!  700 ships used to pass here per month.  I never really understood the importance of the Panama Canal! Montreal September 13, 2025

 Paul and I flew into Montreal on 9/12/25.  The airport was a zoo. Paul’s phone recorded 2.8 miles of walking.   Now, some of that was no doubt also in the Austin airport. That evening all who came in early for the Winemakers’ cruise gathered in the hotel bar.  The next day we all had tickets for Aura, the light show at the Basilica.  We Ubered  there, packed in like sardines. The Aura show was quite impressive in person.  We were not allowed to photograph the show itself,  but I took pics when the lights came back on.
